This is SYPG's Story
The South Yorkshire Preservation Group was created back in the 1990s by a few enthusiasts that wanted to have some of the back loader double deck buses of Sheffield and Doncaster preserved.
Two of the buses 3156 WE and 3904 WE were used in service in and around Sheffield and taking passengers further a field at times too. As the vehicles came to the end of their service life, they were both used by the Driving School to train new drivers. These vehicles have not got any mod cons such as Power Assisted Steering, Anti-lock brakes or self-cancelling indicators. These are very basic vehicles when it comes to the controls and drivers aids.
The Preservation Group used the buses for day trips out and members would put funds into the pot to help keep the vehicles on the road for all to see. We have around 10 members and these people have helped us to build the group into what it is today.
Meet the Buses we use
Seating capacity = 55 seat. Here we have the two Leyland Titans or as we like to call them ‘The Mighty Titans’ as these are the buses that were once on the roads in and around Sheffield back in the 1950’s and 1960’s.
Leyland Titan PD2, built back in 1958 by Leyland – This bus is very distinctive with it’s tin front (grill) and having a back door which is not something you see every day on these vintage buses.
When these buses are out and about on service and transporting passengers to their special event, we cap the seating capacity to 50 people.
Seating capacity = 69 seats. Here we have the two Leyland Titans or as we like to call them ‘The Mighty Titans’ as these are the buses that were once on the roads in and around Sheffield back in the 1950’s and 1960’s.
Leyland Titan PD3, built back in 1959 – Also has the distinctive tin front (grill) but no rear door. This is the longest of the two buses with an extra few seats inside.
When these buses are out and about on service and transporting passengers to their special event, we cap the seating capacity to 50 people.
